So you might have noticed I was not working out of the Pee Dee Newsroom last week and that I was reporting at the beach... well here's why.
8 days ago, on Sunday, I went for a ride on my horse. Yes, his name is The Perfect Storm, and he's only been mine for about two weeks. I love him dearly, even after what I'm about to tell you.
My 3 year old horse and I hit the trails with two other riders. Of course, being away from the barn isn't something he has much experience with since he is so young, but the only way he'll get it is if we go. In which we did. Throughout the beginning minutes of the trail ride, Storm was a little giddy, but that's to be expected.
Well.... one of the riders I was with wanted to go check on something so we ventured off course a bit and that's when it happened. A hawk spooked all of the horses. The first in line, well he stayed on his horse. The second immediately hit the ground, and for me.... I played cowgirl, but only for about 30 seconds.
Storm flipped around and took off like Seabiscuit. Thanks to the western saddle I had on him, the horn saved me for the turn. My poor horse was so scared, he just wanted to get away as fast as possible, and that meant not listening to the woman on top of him yelling, "whoa" and pulling on the reins.
Once I saw a quick turn ahead, I decided it would be best to exit. So after swinging my leg around, and getting a grip on the horn, I dragged for a few feet, while searching for a soft muddy spot. I did in deed find that muddy spot where I then flipped over backwards several times.
Covered in mud, not feeling too great, I found my horse, hopped back on and made him go to the same exact spot. He boogered the entire time, but hey, he needed to know the boogie monster wouldn't get him.
Well... here comes the awesome part... as the hours passed, the pain started sinking in. I couldn't turn my head, move my arm, nothing. Monday morning it was off the the doctors for me where I was told my arm was in a sling. I really banged myself up from my shoulder, to my head, and to the rest of myself.
Still today, the shoulder isn't feeling great. But there you have it. I did miss you all in the Pee Dee while I was at the beach, but I will say I love working down there too. It's all about new environments and getting to meet new people. Which we all know is my most favorite part of my job... meeting new people. And not to forget all of my co-workers who I don't think I could live without.
So stay tuned... I'm sure there's many more spills to be had. I just hope they won't happen anytime soon. And I'm hoping the days I haven't been able to ride, since I can't move my arm, my Storm has realized mommy got hurt, so next time, lets play the dull, slow horse. (hehe yeah right, I must remember I have a 3yr old, but it's always nice to dream)
I'll post pictures of him soon to share with you all, because I'm so proud of him. He's gorgeous and so sweet. So check them out when they go up.
