Now that we're in the fall season, these "dry" spells can be a real treat. Moisture gets sucked up by an sweeping October cold front and really give us a great Fall feeling. It also gets me thinking about the upcoming holidays, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas!
But while we enjoy the beautiful weekend, I can't help but think about our neighbors in the Upstate, who desperately need the moisture...and looking into the magic 8 ball, the outlook is not so good.
The latest from the Seasonal Drought Outlook for the next couple of months shows for the excessive drought to persist across the area.
Now, to shed *some light...the month of September and beginning of October hasn't been as bad as the previous months in 2008. The Greenville-Spartanburg Weather Service has recorded 3.74 inches of moisture in their official rain gage since September first... and that's only two tenths under the normal for this time of year. Still, the office reports that they are under 9.68" for 2008.
Hopefully, the drought-stricken parts of the Southeast can make up for some of the lost moisture to round out the year...but October has a bad reputation of being a "dry" month. We'll just have to wait and see...
